Dates
The Varus March takes place from September 8 to 11, with arrival on September 7 and departure on September 12.
We march on the same days that the XVII, XVIII and XIX legions were ambushed and destroyed in 9 AD.
This is not symbolic. These are the actual dates. This is when it happened. So this is when we go.
Full Schedule
September 7 2025 – Arrival and Briefing
Participants arrive.
Gear is checked, final instructions are given and the group assembles.
Accommodation is provided indoors for the night.
September 8–11 – The March
Three full days of movement.
We follow the Arminiusweg trail, carrying our own gear and progressing as a unit.
There is no support. No vehicles.
Sleep is outdoors: either in personal bivy gear, a one-man tent or directly under cover.
September 11 – Final Day / Night
After completing the route, we regroup for a debrief and a tour at the museum and the battlefield.
Indoor accommodation is provided this night.
September 12 – Departure
Return travel.
