The Route Preview

The march follows the Arminiusweg trail; the final path of the Roman legions, from Porta Westfalica to Kalkriese, the presumed site of the final ambush.

What Happened in the Teutoburg Forest?

In September of 9 AD, three Roman legions: XVII, XVIII and XIX were led into the forests of Germania by a man they trusted.

Arminius, once a Roman ally, betrayed them.

Over three/four days of rain, mud and ambushes, the legions were annihilated.
Rome would never again use their legion numbers.
